I have been buying products on Amazon for a long time, and this is the first time I have felt compelled to write a review, so that speaks to how satisfied I am with the product.I had told my dad that I wanted to mount my Warwick 5-string Thumb Bass on my wall horizontally, so he bought this product from our local guitar shop for me for Christmas. My first reaction was that a) it is called the "Vert" model, so I assumed it was for mounting guitars vertically and b) there's no way that the contents of the this small package are going to safely and securely mount my precious (and heavy) bass on a wall! My dad assured me that the salesman at the guitar shop said it could mount in any angle and that this was the right model for my bass.
Still not 100% satisfied, I went to the manufacturers website and read the product info & FAQ. I was able to determine that the model was correct for my style of guitar/bass (side-mounted buttons with an angled headstock), but did not see a maximum weight capacity listed. I contacted the manufacturer to confirm the weight capacity and received a response in less than an hour (and I'm pretty sure it was non-business hours in the U.K. where they are located). I was very impressed! The representative notified me that he demonstrates the sturdiness of the product by standing on the brackets, but to check with a local hardware store if I was mounting into drywall, which I was.
After confirming with the hardware store, we decided to go ahead and mount the bass. Aside from my dad accidentally drilling a hole about 9 inches off the mark we measured (perhaps I should have offered him that beer after mounting it?), the installation was a breeze- you literally just have to measure and drill a few holes, screw the two brackets to the wall and you're done! The strap buttons of the guitar go into the holes in each bracket, so depending how you line up the brackets on the wall, you can mount the guitar at any angle! The plastic on the mount bends just enough to allow you to remove/replace the guitar on the wall if you want to take it down and play.
Once mounted, the clear brackets are virtually invisible when viewing the instrument dead-on, and are only really noticeable when viewing from the side which is unlikely to happen in the room/place I mounted it. Compared to other mounts I see online, this one appears to best show off your instrument as opposed to the mount! Also, the instrument is held up by the body alone, so there is virtually no stress on the neck at all! Another reviewer mentioned that his instrument leaned toward the wall on one side which I also noticed, but the product came with a small foam pad which i positioned behind the bottom of the bass to resolve this issue easily. Also, I found that with the plastic spacer (middle piece in product photo) installed, the neck/headstock went too far off the wall (likely because the neck of a bass is longer and the headstock isn't sharply angled), so I simply installed it without that piece. I am not entirely sure that is a manufacturer-approved setup, so do so at your own discretion, but it seems sturdy to me!
PROS: Simple, elegant design - shows off your instrument not the mount!; Sturdy/well-made; Affordable; Easy to install; Mount at any angle, with no pressure on the neck!; Responsive customer service
CONS: If I have to pick one, it would be that it's a little cumbersome removing & replacing the bass out of/into the mount, considering you have to bend the plastic while holding a heavy instrument up in the air securely. It's certainly doable and even easier with two people, but if I were playing my bass every day I might consider a regular vertical mount that allows easy one-handed use.
Great product!!
