Product Description

The Seymour Duncan AHB-2b Blackouts Metal Bridge Humbucker is an updated, redesigned, and re-launched version of LiveWires Metal humbucker with new preamp, new voicing, and ability to switch between output levels. This guitar pickup is perfect for all styles of metal, punk, garage, thrash, drop tunings, and heavy rock.Blackouts Metal pickups are voiced for extreme heaviness. They are Seymour Duncan's highest output electric guitar pickups. Period. They have a screaming voice with amazing mid-range punch and they produce thick, dark chords, and hard-hitting leads. When you play extreme aggressive styles and you have to cut through above the other instruments in your band, Blackouts Metal pickups are the call. There's only one version of Blackouts Metal, but you can dial up two very different output levels. In high-output mode, they're so extreme, so brutal, and so vicious, you might want to check with local law enforcement to make sure they're legal! This Seymour Duncan pickup can be used in any humbucker-routed electric guitar. Includes 25K pots, stereo jack, battery clip, pin jumper, and other mounting hardware.AHB-2b Blackouts Metals have a unique dual pin configuration on the underside of the pickup for two modes of output: loud and louder. With the same aggressive tonality in each mode, you now have a choice in output. With the jumper removed, you have a high output bridge humbucker pickup that's still compatible with a neck pickup or the clean channel on your amp. However, with the jumper in place, you unleash all the raw power, incredible output, and untamed aggression. The pins can also be wired to a mini-switch or push/pull, for an on board boost! Not splitable.

Seymour Duncan AHB-2b Blackout Metal Bridge Humbucker Black Review

Ok, So I got the new Seymour Duncan Blackouts Metal (AHB-2) Bridge Pickup installed on my Dean Razorback Explosion in the bridge position with a AHB-1 (Blackout) in the neck last week. FYI, The jumper was left on the bridge pickup for super high gain

First Impressions: WHOA - THIS IS LOUD!!!! AND SO SATURATED!
After playing with the guitar for a while, I can clearly say that it does live up to all the Hype you read up on it and the YouTube videos will never do it enough justice, you have to be there to check the difference out yourself. It's just the cutting edge pickup I needed for my Dean Razorback which shipped out with the factory standard - Seymour Duncan Dimebucker SH 13 bridge pickup which was frankly a mediocre pickup at best.

If Dimebag Darrel were to be alive, it's a no brainer for him to have gone along the lines of the AHB1/AHB2 just for the amount of bite they offer.

The harmonics ring out great...the squeals are great...and only after installing the Blackouts did I realize how much sustain I have on my Razorback. The AHB -2 is a midsy pickup - favoring the Mids/Bass and then the Treble side. If you're going to palm mute and shred on the low E string, you will hear the KERRANG of metal against METAL..It sounds like you're ripping sheets of steel apart..No kidding..Check it out yourself..The sustain is MUCH better than EMG 81's in my opinion which I have installed on my other guitars....but...the praise stops there...why ?

AHB-2 and clean sounds are incompatible - you will get pure sterile crunch if it is in the bridge position ...and frankly...after hours of comparing my EMG 81 pickups with the AHB2's ...with all the same settings..I think, for stage/live performances, I would definitely stick with the EMG 81's ! ....why you ask? Simply because the overdrive coming out of the AHB2-s combined with any rack effects/distortions you are using really sounds...well "OVER SATURATED" and that's being euphemistic. In the end it finally boils down to the "to each his own" statement.

My distortions on my EMG 81s have a certain GROWL but kinda fizzle off and the same distortion coming through the AHB-2 begin to sound like a Boss Metal Zone mated with a Fuzz Tone...But I must say the finger tapper's will be over joyed with the amount of sustain and easy tapping enabled.

My only piece of advice: GET THIS PICKUP..It's unbelievably HOT..BUT..be prepared to have a whole different pre-amp / fx setup / programmed in if you are rotating this guitar with others that don't have the same pups in em.
