Vibramate V7-LP Les Paul Adaptor Mounting Kit, For Bigsby B7, Aluminum Review
This review is for the Vibramate and B7 Bigsby both. I will mention several modifications that one may want to try that still don't change your guitar from stock. I put this and the Bigsby on a '73 Goldtop Les Paul Deluxe. This era Les Paul has 6-32 threaded bridge posts that screw directly into the maple top of the guitar. When I had the bridge off I noticed a slight wobble in one of these posts so I screwed it out. I was only 1" long so I started screwing it back in and it kept going in further and further into the top. I went to the hardware store and bought a 1 foot section of 6-32 threaded stock for $2.00. I needed a 1/2" to mount the bridge on to and I wound up screwing a 2" piece of stock bottoming in the hole with a 1/2" sticking out. Did the same with the other bridge piece so instead of a 1/2" in the top I had 1 1/2" inches sunk into the top. Way more solid connection. I also changed the original ABR style bridge to a $29.00 roller bridge from Stewart MacDonald guitar supply. The roller bridge has two allen screws that tighten onto the bridge pieces/posts to make a very solid connection. The Bigsby went on in seconds and the only other changes you may have to make is you may need a larger strap button on the rear where the Bigsby tail piece screws on. The additional hardware makes it hard to get the strap on the stock button so a larger button, like a Fender style and some washers to shim it out further will make it easier. It took longer to string up the guitar than to install once I got the other things sorted out. With the bridge posts changes and the roller bridge replacement my guitar is more solid sounding than it ever had before. There is no vibration loss from sloppy hardware. Now about the Bigsby itself. I love electric Neil Young and this is a huge part of his sound. The Bigsby works smooth, and does exactly what I expect it to do. 1/2 step bends and not much more, but that's all I need to play "Cortez the Killer". I put a little 3 in 1 oil followed by powdered graphite in the nut, work the Bigsby to get it in the slots well, and I'm in tune all night. I got both the Vibramate and the American made Bigsby from amplified parts for $175.00 total w/o any shipping charges. I'm happy. The Vibramate only works with the American B7. The imported B70 won't work with it. The only other thing is your guitar may not fit in the case as well as the Bigsby adds some height to your guitar, so you may be using a gigbag unless it does fit OK.Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Vibramate V7-LP Les Paul Adaptor Mounting Kit, For Bigsby B7, Aluminum" are high quality item.
