Product Description
Travelite cases are made of the most modern space-age poly-expanded materials to provide the ideal combination of lightweight and strength. The rigid foam structure insulates as well as protects. These are covered with thinly-padded 600-denier black ballistic nylon which provides excellent protection aginst the elements. And, with two removable, padded backpack straps, the case can be carried with great ease. Model TL-60 fits all Saga Regal Resonator, Tricone, Duolian and Dobro models.Travelite Case for Classical/Dobro TL-60 Review
I'm a classical guitarist whom spends 5 or 6 days a week walking to gigs, studios and classrooms with a bag and guitar case strapped to my body. And, yeah, it can get really heavy when stuck with the cheap parking two blocks away. Hence my endless search for a case that protects, is not bulky and is easy on my shoulder. And Travelite has somehow combined all three attributes and at an inexpensive price to boot. Here in sunny Honolulu we have to worry about thermal damage as much as impact and this case offers up great insolation from the 125 degrees in my car trunk typical on my daily commute. An hour of baking in my trunk and my guitar is still cool from the studio AC.MATERIALS * The exterior is light duty nylon but seems well made. The interior is a soft pile material over open cell foam and looks a little cheap. The stash pocket has plenty of room for a couple sets of strings, a tuner, spare batteries, etc. Unfortunately the knob on the stash pocket is really small and slippery. The zipper is silky smooth and does not snag.
I'm not a fan of the thin double backpack straps included and I quickly tossed tossed them, substituting a beefy strap with comfy shoulder pad. The strap hooks are placed such that the case tips when used with a shoulder strap, and needs to be steadied with your arm. Although the hardware hooks are metal, they are of extremely light duty. My main concern with the metal hooks is they are sewn onto the outer nylon skin and seem weak. Ideally they should be connected to a reinforced area or anchored into the body of the case. When loaded, the hooks pull the outer skin considerably, making it looser with each use.
FIT * My 1990 Jose Ramirez fits perfectly. However, my Hirade classicals (with pickups) are slightly larger and a little too snug: I must insert tail first and press the padding near the preamp to keep controls from snagging. One thing I like about this case design is the thoughtful velcro on the flap that covers the lock latch. If you are dull and forget to zip the case closed the velcro will probably save your guitar from tumbling out.
For less than a benajamin and free shipping, this case is a bargain, easy on the shoulder and affords great protection. Wish it had stronger strap hooks.
