Here is the deal on a FR Special... Yes, it's made in Korea BUT... It is built to original specs and is a real FR product where as "licensed by" 's are not. It's over all build quality is equal to German built models. The only two thing that are not up to spec are Zinc saddles and sustain blocks. The base is still hardened steel and all of the small parts are of "Original" quality. Zinc makes a difference in tone and sustain, plus it can crack so that is the issue. I buy a lot of German made OFR's due to being a guitar builder and although they come with brass sustain blocks the first thing I do is replace it with an over sized Bell brass block, so for me a Special only means I have a saddle issue. If I am using a Special for whatever reason (usually because I want a "black chrome" finish) I can get saddles that are cast but not zinc fairly cheaply and they really do have the same sustain and tone as their Schaller counter part no matter what people tell you. So then you are left with a fully Original Floyd in terms of tone, sustain, quality and warranty, that works for me. Plus, since I can get a new Special for $40.00 I could even buy the real Schaller saddles and still come out ahead money wise if wanted. The Special is better than any Licensed By unit I've tried and if you change your blocks like I do and leave the saddles you still have a much better unit than the other non originals. So to wrap up... Completely stock= good trem, surpasses other licensed models, so at that point it's a 3... Replace the block= a 4 and change out saddles, a sweet sounding, long ringing monster dive bomber that stays in tune forever... 5 stars of course. If you don't want to spend the cash on the real deal this is where I would go... BTW RW, you came into this area biased against Floyd Rose so how could you give anyone an honest assessment on this model? People come here because they already like FR and want to know about the Special version. So your hate of the FR makes your review completely worthless. You shouldn't have wasted the time because your helping no one...Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Floyd Rose Special Series Tremolo Bridge with R3 Nut Black" are high quality item.
