Jim Dunlop 741 Capo/Slide Converter Review

I tried this on a round neck resonator I have for lap playing. I keep a "Hawaiian nut" on this guitar (nut extension), so this didn't work so good for that, as the action was to high to use this. This would work well on most acoustics, though, or electrics that you want to play lap style with, but you would have to have this at least on the first fret. You could tune open D, then put this on the second fret and play open E, however.
If it was a little taller and the elastic a little stonger it would be perfect for use with a lap guitar that has a nut extension.

Fender 30 Barstool Review

This is a very nice, reasonably priced, comfortable stool. Assembly is a little bit complicated, and the instructions really stink.

This is a tall stool for guitar playing, but the perfect height for a bar. The seat rotates 360 degrees. The padding is decent. The red around the outside is that ultra sparkly shiny metallic red (if you have seen a Daisy Rock guitar, there you go). I like the simple Fender words on the top - also of slippery, shiny vinyl.

The seat looks like it could take a beating for a long time. The legs and ring are really solid - perfect foot rest and should last a good long time.

Assembly - even the picture is a bit off compared to what was in the box. I've assembled four of these so here's my directions:

The hardware bag includes everything absolutely required to build this stool, even an Allen wrench and one of those flat stamped metal open end wrenches. Because the nuts are anti-back out (or what I used to call self locking nuts), they are pretty tough to tighten. I strongly recommend using a 3/8 drive socket wrench, the nuts are all 7/16th inch.

Divide up the hardware - there are 4 long Allen head bolts, 5 medium length (more on that in a second), and 4 short, and 9 nuts.

First step - they added a center hole to the two legs (not shown on the instruction sheet). Those 5 medium length bolts - there is one bolt slightly shorter than the other four. Use this shorter bolt to join the two legs. Put the bolt in from the top. Tighten this down really tight with your wrench.

Second step - attach the foot ring. Use the 4 long Allen head bolts and hand tighten the nuts inside the stool.

Third step - attach the spinning mechanism / turntable on the top. There is a small box with a plastic bag with a black square thing in it. You'll notice four slotted holes on the edge. Turn the top and the bottom part 45 degrees (so you can access the slotted holes on the bottom part). Now place this over the four holes on the top of the steel legs. Insert the 4 medium length Allen bolts. You'll have to wiggle the turntable around a bit to get it lined up. Now hand tighten the nuts on all four bolts.

Fourth step - Tighten all the nuts. Start at the foot ring using the Allen wrench to hold the bolt and your ratchet wrench to turn the nut. Snug up each nut first, then go back and really tighten the bolts. Now go back up to the top and tighten up the turntable. First snug all the bolts and then tighten them down.

Fifth step - attach the seat. Lay the seat down on the floor upside down - Fender logo down. Flip the legs over and align the slotted holes of the top of the turntable with the holes in the seat. Insert the 4 shortest Allen head screws and hand tighten them. Now finish them up really tight with the Allen wrench.

Bingo - your stool is now assembled. Unfortunately, out of the box the stool will be a little tippy (one leg set is a little longer than the other). That will straighten out after you sit on it once or twice.

This is a good sturdy stool. Not major difficult to assemble, but also not simple.

HUMBUCKER PICKUP COVER CLOSED BLACK Review

It fits many pickups, but there are a few slightly longer ones that may need to be modified a little to fit. I have an Epiphone SG Special with cheap factory humbuckers that I changed out with a Tonerider Generator and it fits over it and the OEMs fine. The problem is the trim/mount ring that is a little to short in the hole length. I need to shave a little off the inside of it for the covers to fit in there. I also have a Seymour Duncan JB that it a tad to long and I also need to shave a little off the ends of the pickup to fit inside the cover.

Figure on having trim a little here and there to get these to fit right because all humbucker pickups and trim rings are not the exact same dimensions. It's a good idea to also buy trim rings to use as an OEM backup or to modify for the covers. These will probably not be an exact fit, so if you're not good with your hands, you may need to get a pro to custom fit them for you.

I gave it 3 stars instead of 5 because of the price for these thin plastic covers. Other places sell these for $5/pair. I paid $6/each plus shipping making it almost $20 for the pair!
