Product Description
Martin FX745 light-medium phosphor bronze acoustic guitar strings use a thinner core wire to deliver greater player control with sharp attack, increased flexibility and improved harmonic sustain. The wrap is constructed of 92/8 bronze and the core wire is Martin's platinum: high carbon steel with special zinc flashing. Recommended for acoustic rock rhythm styles.Martin FX745 Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings, Light-Medium Review
I switched to these strings from the Martin SP Mediums. The action on my Martin DC16RGTE with Mediums is a bit stiff and wears my hand out with prolonged jazz chording or finger picking. I finger pick and flat pick with a 60mm Dunlop...I seem to get good dynamics out of these strings.Pros:
- The FX Light Med allow me to play longer and enjoy it...a happy hand is a happy guitar player. These play much faster, less fatigue, and are a good trade off from the Mediums.
- Don't have the wimpy feel/sound of light gauge strings.
- These strings are thinner sounding, especially on the low end, but not so much as others I have tried and seem to be a good balance between the med and lights...hmmmm, maybe that is why they call them Light Med?
- The E&B strings still have a "medium" feel to them and they are not tinny like a set of lights would be.
- Changing to lights would have required a new set up...perhaps I should still get one...but I haven't noticed enough action change to cause buzzing or rattles so very happy. Your mileage may vary and most luthiers will tell you to get a new set up when you change string gauges.
Cons:
- I am a huge fan of the medium SP sound on my Martin as it is big and warm without booming so I will likely put those on for recording where that warmer, rich sound is required. But in general these are really good strings with nice sound.
