An ultra-fine layer of EXP Coating is bonded to the nickelplated steel outer wrap wire which is then wound onto the hex-shaped core wire. The result is a built-in barrier against the corrosion and wear that can quickly sap the life out of your strings and your sound. If you are lucky enough to not snap the core of the string you'll be fine. I bought a set of these to put on my Ibanez AEB5E, and this is the second set. They feel great and sound great, but they break easily, which has never happened to me with any other bass strings, EVER, not even like crappy factory stings. The trouble is, these are the only acoustic bass coated strings I can find.

The acoustic strings are harder to use, just like a regular guitar. The electric strings are far more slinky and the acoustic are harder and tighter, so for the bass it is more comfortable to have these coated option, they're fantastic on your fingers comparatively.

The original set I had went on fine, and I hardly use my acoustic bass it mostly collects dust so after about 6 months of sitting on the wall and being used maybe once a month fooling around, I attempted to tune the guitar up one half step and that SNAPPED the core of the A string. (I thought to myself this was obviously my fault, I shouldn't have tried to tune it up, but a half step shouldn't have been a big deal) so I bought myself another set to replace it...

When I was putting on the new strings the BRAND NEW E-string core snapped while tuning, so I put the old E back on, and new A, D & G strings... I was kind of disappointed.

I give it a 3 because they feel good and sound good, but the quality is questionable... since they are the only coated acoustic bass strings I could find I will probably keep using them, but if there was another brand I would try them in a heartbeat.
