Fender Pro Junior Tube Set, JJ Tubes (x2 EL84, x2 12AX7) Review

Installed this set in an Ampeg JetII J-12R. They replaced a set of EH tubes that were crackly after 5 years of sporadic use. These tubes brought the amp back to life: fairly quiet-- just normal hiss when you crank the volume. Smooth, wide frequency respons with a very "open" and articulate sound using either humbuckers or single coils. Makes the amp seem much louder. Stands up to my Marshall JTM-60 (3X10")with older Groove tubes. Will be retubing the Marshall as well with JJs from Amplifiedparts. Clean sound: 5/5, overdriven: 4/5. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is they are a tad too bright/metallic for my taste when the amp is cranked-- and cranked is what it takes to get any crunch/tube compression. I wish they were a bit warmer/browner, and at lower levels. Although, given past experience with tubes in general, putting some hours on the tubes may warm them up some. And to be fair, the Ampeg has always had the issue of clean better than crunch. (Hence the Marshall!) These tubes do play well with a variety of pedals.
