I'm not much on writing gear reviews with a bunch of florid adjectives where everything is "warm" or "sharp" or "powerful" or "crisp"...

I was after an autowah that would give me something most closely resembling the old envelope filter 'porn guitar' effect. I tried them all, arrived at this one (including over some boutique units that did nothing but strive to duplicate the "old envelope filter" tone). It has a great clean and a great dirty when ran through an OD.

Sometimes, guys wind up with one pedal or another, then rationalize 101 reasons why it's the best thing out there not because it genuinely is, but because it's what they have. In my case, I deliberately chose the AW3 after a pretty exhaustive, subjective comparison between most of the AW pedals currently on the market (and a few that are no longer on the market).

Compared to other AWs, it's very broad as far as the tonality and voice it offers. It does pretty much everything the other AWs do, plus a few things they do not do. It definitely requires a bit of study and understanding so you can really flex it to maximum capacity, but it's not that hard to learn.

The best way for you to determine if it's for you is to try them in person then decide for for yourself- or at a minimum, head to youtube and listen to working examples- you may decide you prefer another unit. Either way, if you pull the trigger on this one, I can't imagine another AW will come along that would cause you to "regret" buying this one. It has a great AW tone and is very versatile.
